Modern Haggis Hurling is judged on the basis of distance and accuracy
of the hurl within the Hurling Arena.. The judge, or 'brehous',
is in charge of the measure and assessment of each throw.
A split or burst haggis is immediately disqualified (in keeping
with its historical roots the haggis must be fit to eat).
Because the haggis must land intact, the sport requires subtle
technique rather than brute force, as the hurl must result in a
gentle landing to keep the haggis skin intact.

Modern
Haggis Hurling is carried out under stringent rules. Distance, posture,
volume, haggis consistency and shape are all controlled and monitored.
Judging of the event is carried out in the Erse dialect
Each stage in the throw is judged. Video assessment has also
been suggested to study the use of 'spin' when hurling - the balance
within the haggis can effect the trajectory and momentum of the
hurl enormously.
